Why it matters.

Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been the industry stalwart in Durable Water Rellant (DWR) finishes for years.  PFAS chemicals are often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down naturally.  Governmental agencies and consumers worldwide are demanding an end to the use of PFAS.  However, these same consumers still demand all of benefits of PFAS coated fabrics, mainly great water repellency while allowing for breathability and a long product useable life.

Meeting this market need has been the focus for the best of the best for years.  However, everyone has been coming up short, until now.

PFAS works because of the element fluorine.  Fluorine has a special atomic structure that repels, well…. virtually everything.  Replacing a fundamentally advantaged element is not an easy task.  You don’t just add functional elements to the periodic table.  You must work with what you’ve been given.
